x402 market snapshot: October 2026
Last updated 2026-10-21 (US Eastern). Every figure below is dated and links to its source.
How big is the x402 market for pay-per-call APIs and AI agents? This page collects the public numbers we could check: the x402 List directory (live and its monthly reports), a September snapshot from Pennyforge, the US Treasury OFAC list of sanctioned crypto addresses, and our own directory of 283 verified listings. Directory counts measure what is listed and monitored, not the whole ecosystem.
Key numbers
The x402 List directory right now
x402 List is an open directory that probes every listed service's HTTP 402 response. x402 List also publishes a measured 30-day traction floor across listed services (from its llms.txt, generated 2026-10-22 UTC): 9,261 distinct on-chain buyers, $381,478 in USDC settlement volume and 1,726,778 settlements across 772 measured services. The top 10 services account for 96.1% of that volume. x402 List calls this "a measured floor across listed services, NOT an ecosystem total".

Monthly trend: State of x402, Q3 2026
x402 List's monthly reports cover closed calendar months and are frozen after a 14-day settle window. All three months and the quarter below are frozen. Facilitator volume is on-chain USDC settlement volume read from the facilitators x402 List tracks. It is a sum per facilitator, not deduplicated, and not the whole ecosystem.
| Period | Services monitored | Weighted uptime | Facilitator USDC volume | Settlements | Facilitators |

Source: youraitools.co/listings.json (updated 2026-10-21). A listing can accept several networks, so network counts add up to more than 283. Price shares are of the 251 listings with a published price. Compare them on the best x402 APIs page.
Methodology
- We used only sources that are public and openly licensed or public-domain, and we checked every figure against its source file on 2026-10-21 (US Eastern). Copies of the source files are kept so the numbers can be re-checked.
- x402 List live figures come from all 11 pages of its public services API. Our script counted services, categories, networks (CAIP-2 ids; Base is eip155:8453) and the minimum price per call. Monthly figures are copied from the frozen State of x402 period files.
- The 5 September comparison uses Pennyforge's published summary figures as they are. It is itself built from x402 List data.
- OFAC counts are unique address strings in the SDN list's digital currency address fields, by asset code.
- Our own figures come from our listings file. The starting price is the first price shown on each listing.
- We do not use or publish usage data from the Coinbase CDP x402 Bazaar or Agentic.Market, x402.new usage figures, or Agent Almanac figures. Directory and facilitator figures are measured floors from their publishers, not totals for the whole x402 ecosystem.
- This is a dated snapshot. When we update it, the date changes and older figures are not rewritten. Corrections: see our about page.
